Abu Dhabi Police Raises Awareness on Traffic Violations

Abu Dhabi Police warns motorists about severe penalties for ignoring traffic signals. Violators face fines, points, and possible vehicle auction if fees aren't settled.

The authorities of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi remind drivers of the strict fines for violating traffic rules. In accordance with Law No. 5 of 2020, drivers who run a red light face serious penalties. The Emirati police, in one of their posts on social media, recommended that drivers remain vigilant, especially at intersections and traffic lights.

"Make sure you are focused while driving and follow the traffic light rules to ensure your safety and the safety of others," says the Emirati police in their appeal. Violators are fined 1,000 dirhams, receive 12 penalty points, and may also face a driving ban for six months and the impounding of the vehicle for 30 days.

The released impounded vehicle can only be retrieved after paying a fine of 50,000 dirhams. Vehicle owners are advised to pay special attention to this issue, as failure to pay the penalties may lead to the public auction of the vehicle. It is necessary to settle the total fine within three months, otherwise, the vehicle will be put up for auction.
